Questions and advice on planning weddings, relationships and how to avoid problems on the big day.
Hi, I am Lynette, third generations bridal and social occasion designer and wedding consultant. During my 30+ years as a wedding planner and bridal retailer I have seen it all. Below are some common questions asked by those planning weddings. Email your questions to the link below.
Question: I have no idea what style will look best on my figure. Where do I start?
Answer: That is a common problem. So many brides bring what call "the Committee" to critique every dress. First, we do recommend that you shop with one or two close friends or family who will focus on supporting you. Leave small children at home. Then, visit a few bridal stores to see how you relate to the staff, how you like the general feel of the salon and style. We in the industry call this "positioning" as not all bridal salons set out to serve the same customers. If you are looking for full service this is extremely important. Your bridal salon consultant will be your new best friend for the next few months. Your wedding day memories will be impacted more by how you feel about what you wear than any other aspect of your wedding plans. A professional will assess your figure, personality, budget and style and show you the best gowns and accessories for you. Although the choice is yours, it is not necessary to "graze" through every shop. The "Committee" will often encourage you to keep the fun going and you will soon tire of the ordeal and buy the wrong dress out of sheer exhaustion.
Question: How do I decide what color my mother should wear?
Answer: That is a great question and one that has been quite an issue lately. Your mom likely knows what colors look good on her. Give her and your groom's mom the latitude to choose their dresses in the same formality and length as each other's in a non clashing color to your bridesmaids.
Question: I have searched for the bridesmaid dresses in my color and I can't find them anywhere. What can I do.
Answer: That is a great question. Many of our favorite shades of color are not available year after year. Somewhere, the great color gods decide what colors are going to be available. This is the same for cars, appliances, home furnishings and of course, clothing. It is best to work with a specialist in color to help you find which dress colors are available and those that look the best on your bridesmaids. Skin tone, hair color, and make up must be taken into consideration. There are some colors you should never put on a group unless you want unhappy girls.
