How many times do you plan to get married, go to prom, or other such special occasion? Those once in a lifetime events happen...... Oh! yes. Once in a lifetime. It's probably safe to say that you don't have much experience shopping for such an outfit and you feel a little scared. That's normal. The press and media has told you that a full service bridal salon is not a good place to go. They try to tell you that you will be overcharged. I'm here to set the record straight.
You're not just buying a dress. You need the right dress. The right style, cut, size, color and maybe a nip and tuck here and there to make it fit just right. You need the jewelry, if it's a wedding gown you need a headpiece and veil. You need jewelry, a slip, maybe a bra and you need shoes. You need your dress pressed just before you wear it. You might also need your dress cleaned and surely, if you are going to keep it you want it packaged in such a way that it will be protected.
If you're planning a wedding you need to dress a bunch of women who are different personalities, sizes, colorings, and probably in different locations. You have guys to think about and all these people will be photographed together and their pictures will hang on your wall, in your photo album and in your heart and mind for the rest of your life. You need someone who cares about you, has time to spend with you, and the experience to manage all these different sizes, personalities, locations, etc. You need someone who has been there many times to help you through the dynamics of the task.
Do you honestly think that big box store consultant cares about all of the above? Hardly! She is worried about keeping her job if she doesn't make her sales goals today. She wants to get a dress on you, sold and you out the door happy or not as soon as possible because she has more customers coming. If you aren't happy she will probably not be available and you will deal with someone else at that store who has an equally high sales quota and you are old history.

Big box sells you the dress. Their marketing tries to make you believe that they sell for less when in reality what they sell is an overpriced, stripped down version. Then they don't just nickel and dime you. They dollar and ......! Ouch! your budget just went south.
